School Presentation

Each year I am invited into a public school or two to talk to 2nd or 3rd graders about “bugs”. The kids love to interact, and see some exotic specimens I have. Today I did two 2nd grade classes at Taku Elementary, very enjoyable. This year, however, I started concluding the presentations with how to avoid bringing bugs (I did not specify Bed Bugs or Roaches etc) to school. We talked about hanging or discarding of used clothes, keeping shoes by the front door, keeping backpacks in containers etc. Also, we discussed awareness as to what to do if you see a bug at home or school — tell your parents or the teacher. I also took a specimen of different stages of BB and showed them privately to the teachers to help educate them as well. Pied Piper feels a community responsibility to assist our local schools who are facing these new threats.
